1. Guru Hargobind Ji was the sixth Guru of the Sikh faith, born in 1595 to Guru Arjan Dev and Mata Ganga Ji.
2. He was the first Sikh Guru to bear arms, and is considered to be the founder of the Sikh military tradition.
3. Guru Hargobind Ji was the first Sikh Guru to have a position of authority and was given the title of ‘Sachcha Padshah’ or ‘True King’.
4. Guru Hargobind Ji was responsible for the construction of the Akal Takht in Amritsar, a place of worship for the Sikhs.
5. He also constructed a fort, called the Lohgarh, in the city of Amritsar.
6. He was the first Sikh Guru to organize the Sikh community in a military-style organization and initiated the tradition of the five beloved ones or Panj Pyaras.
7. Guru Hargobind Ji was an advocate of religious freedom and fought against the Mughal rulers to uphold the rights of the Sikhs.
8. He is credited with expanding the influence of the Sikh faith, with the number of Sikh followers rising rapidly during his lifetime.
9. Guru Hargobind Ji was also a great scholar and was well-versed in Sanskrit, Punjabi and Persian literature.
10. He was a great poet and composed many hymns and verses, which are still popularly recited by Sikhs today.
11. Guru Hargobind Ji was a great warrior and led many battles against the Mughal rulers, most notably the Battle of Amritsar in 1634.
12. He was imprisoned by the Mughal emperor Jahangir and was released only after the intervention of his son, Shah Jahan.
13. Guru Hargobind Ji was a great leader and a staunch believer in justice and equality.
14. He is remembered for his teachings of love, peace and harmony and his commitment to the principles of Sikhism.
15. He passed away in 1644 and was succeeded by Guru Har Rai Ji.
